I have over 25 years of experience teaching music theory at a university level. I have taught everything from 16c. modal counterpoint to advanced chromatic harmony, and beyond to 20th & 21st century compositional techniques. But I also teach music funadamentals (the basics of reading and understanding music: scales, intervals, and rhythm).
I have over 25 years of experience teaching aural skills. Fluency in sight-singing and dictation are usually the primary goals, but I will also teach all the smaller skills needed to master these objectives.
I have taught individuals studying for academic exams, but also choristers looking to improve their sight-singing skills.
I am passionate about teaching theory and aural skills. All lessons will be highly interactive, with real-time feedback on your progress, and a positive, encouraging atmosphere.
I am qualified to educate and train students for examinations at any level, including all AMEB and HSC exams.
Whether a beginner or an advanced student, lessons will be tailored to each student's particular needs and goals.
I emphasise a deeper understanding of music theory, not just rote memorisation of rules, which will equip students with the tools to develop a creative approach to their understanding of music.
